Last week, you saw\u00a0several\u00a0landscape shots in this newsletter from my recent trip through the Rocky Mountains.\u00a0 This week’s edition\u00a0is dedicated to wildlife, specifically big game.\u00a0 You may not believe this, but I went almost three weeks without making a bird photo.<\/p>\n

In the Tetons of Wyoming, we\u00a0\u00a0saw and photographed\u00a0several\u00a0bison and moose\u00a0 (you just can’t believe how big a moose is until you get within 30 feet of one like I did).\u00a0 From Wyoming, we\u00a0drove south to Rocky Mountain National Park where we encountered lots of tourists and elk.\u00a0 All of it was great fun,\u00a0magnified by\u00a0our finding the animals in habitat\u00a0 rich\u00a0with\u00a0fall colors.\u00a0 Our timing was as good as it\u00a0gets because the big game animals were in full rut and the colors were peaking\u00a0with the mating season,\u00a0September\u00a020 and October 1.<\/p>\n

I photographed the moose with a 100-400 mm Canon lens that decided to break just about the time we\u00a0headed south to\u00a0work on the\u00a0elk.\u00a0\u00a0Because of it’s Image Stabalization and zoom capabilities, it is a perfect lens for working large animals at fairly close range.\u00a0 Nevertheless, I\u00a0was pretty successful with the 300 mm\u00a0and\u00a0500 mm lenses.<\/p>\n
