Last week, I was in Sinton, Texas at the Welder Wildlife Foundation to help\u00a0judge\u00a0the Coastal Bend Wildlife Photography Contest.\u00a0 The three judges and an alternate, Mike Sloat,\u00a0Kathy Adams Clark, Jay Goodrich and me got\u00a0an hour of free time at sunrise each morning to make a few images of our own.\u00a0\u00a0To make the most of that hour,\u00a0we parked Mike’s big Dodge Pickup at a windmill pond and waited for the wildlife (mostly white-tailed deer) to come to us.<\/p>\n

Here are some of\u00a0my images, including shots of the largest, free-ranging, naturally fed\u00a0whitetail buck of my life:<\/p>\n

*** <\/span>Go online to www.nanpa.org<\/a> and see how to sign up for their regional photography event in Laredo, Texas on October 10-13.\u00a0 Kathy Adams Clark, Sean Fitzgerald and I will lead photography groups to several Laredo area ranches\u00a0with photo blinds.\u00a0 You won’t believe how cheap it is, especially if you sign up before September 1 and you don’t have to be a member of NANPA to participate.<\/p>\n

It has been awhile since I got to photograph wildlife without aid of a blind and it was invigorating to\u00a0watch so many deer at the Welder Wildlife Foundation ranch.\u00a0 Since the Welder is dedicated to wildlife and range research,\u00a0you and I normally can’t photograph\u00a0there.\u00a0 My thanks to the station managers for\u00a0inviting the Coastal Bend Photo Contest folks to use their facilities for judging.\u00a0 We judges\u00a0felt blessed to have the opportunity\u00a0to make these little forays along their back roads.<\/p>\n
