Texas Hummingbird Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>August is the month for migrating hummingbirds in west Texas&#8217; Davis Mountains.\u00a0 The trouble is, one needs to photograph there for the entire month to pick up all the species possibilities.\u00a0\u00a0 So, we probably missed\u00a0some rare visitor or two\u00a0from the west, but\u00a0\u00a0during the 4 workshop days calliope, black-chinned and rufous visited the set\u00a0.\u00a0 Photographing in a private garden near Davis Mountains State Park, we had access to good bird numbers.\u00a0\u00a0Even a shy, gray\u00a0fox made\u00a0one or two appearances.<\/p>\n<p>The weather was great, with highs in the mid-80s and lows in the upper 50s and occasional afternoon thundershowers.\u00a0 I believe it was the rain that\u00a0brought in\u00a0fresh birds almost everyday.\u00a0\u00a0The beautiful mountains, colorful\u00a0garden\u00a0and a fair number of birds made the\u00a0week delightful.<\/p>\n<p>The photographers used\u00a0a\u00a05 flash setup to capture wing-stopping images part of the time.\u00a0 Then everyone enjoyed\u00a0trying to\u00a0photograph\u00a0hummers, without flash, at feeders, perches and flowers.\u00a0\u00a0Both methods had\u00a0their rewards and challenges.\u00a0 Check out the images below and decide for yourself which you prefer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span bird.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The shot above was made in the garden at ISO 1600, 1\/640 second, f\u00a04 with natural, early morning\u00a0light\u00a0using a Canon 1D Mark IV and
