I’ve been photographing around the\u00a0Starr and Hidalgo\u00a0County area of south\u00a0Texas this past week or so.\u00a0 Cloudy weather dominated most of the\u00a0winter so it felt good to feel some rays.<\/p>\n

I can put you onto\u00a0some lightly used\u00a0\u00a0photo equipment\u00a0at really good prices.\u00a0 Yours truly has a Canon IS 100-400 mm, slide focus lens that is in great shape and very sharp.\u00a0\u00a0 Make me an offer.\u00a0 \u00a0A Colorado friend, Joe Zinn, has a Canon 1DX camera with low frame count and an excellent 600 mm lens (not the new model) for $6,000.\u00a0 These will be sold together.\u00a0 If you are interested, let me know and I’ll discuss these with you and\/or put you in touch with Joe.<\/p>\n

I put my favorite photo first.\u00a0 It took two hours of patient waiting for this light and pose.<\/p>\n

This is a second burrowing owl sleeping on a rocky slope.\u00a0 I photographed him for almost two hours while lying on my side with the camera\u00a0 and 500 mm lens on a bean bag.<\/p>\n

I used a Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 70-200 lens and 1.4 x teleconverter\u00a0to get this photo at 1\/3200 second, f4.<\/p>\n

By placing native fruit\u00a0 or bird seed\u00a0near a perch, you can capture\u00a0very natural looking images.\u00a0 Also, note the clean backgrounds form most of the shots in this newsletter…they are no accident.<\/p>\n

Some native brush is starting to bloom, so I took advantage by using cuttings for bird perches.<\/p>\n

At sunset three days ago, this little nine-banded armadillo came walking boldly to the photo blind water hole at Santa Clara Photo Ranch northwest of McAllen. \u00a0(www.santaclararanch.com)<\/p>\n
