A few months back, some of you\u00a0may recall that\u00a0I was chattering more than usual\u00a0about the\u00a0photography opportunities at Transition Ranch near Uvalde, Texas.\u00a0\u00a0During the dry spring\u00a0of 2014,\u00a0I helped the\u00a0owners\u00a0select photo blind locations and\u00a0I showed them where to find golden-cheeked warblers and black-capped vireos.\u00a0 After a few days\u00a0at\u00a0the ranch, I was really\u00a0excited about the\u00a0possibilities.\u00a0\u00a0Then, when\u00a0April arrived this year,\u00a0the ranch was drenched with record amounts of\u00a0rainfall.<\/p>\n

Here are a few of the\u00a0images I captured at Transition Ranch while guiding two groups of photographers at mid-month.\u00a0\u00a0 For best viewing, click on an image to enlarge and sharpen it.\u00a0 Click on the right center of each image to advance through the images.<\/span><\/p>\n

House Finches were abundant in spite of heavy rains.<\/p>\n

House Finches provided lots of action when shooting was slow with other birds.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

White-winged doves have established some large nesting colonies on the Transition Ranch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Frequent rains through the winter and spring made it impossible to\u00a0complete\u00a0photo blinds for golden-cheeked warblers and black-capped vireos.\u00a0 Although shy, they should come to water in this dry country during a normal spring and summer.<\/p>\n

Transition Ranch has a sizable population of breeding black-capped vireos. The species is among Texas’ most beautiful spring\/summer residents.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\"Blue<\/a>
Blue Grosbeaks were just arriving as our time at Transition Ranch ended.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

With abundant moisture, came abundant wildflowers and blooming prickly pear cactus.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>
The hills were covered in prickly pear cactus abloom with yellow and peach colored flowers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Birds<\/a>
Birds like Nashville Warblers, Orange-crowned Warblers and Painted Buntings arrived late because of the cool weather and constant rain.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Some of our photographers got excellent photos of painted buntings and Montezuma quail.\u00a0 I can’t wait for next year…may it be just a little drier.<\/p>\n
