<\/a> <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sometimes you just can’t get\u00a0the bird wings in sync.<\/p>\n Always be aware that good things can happen when you photograph wildlife while shooting into the sun.<\/p>\n This very cooperative young peregrine falcon held his position while everyone captured many frames of this once-in-a-lifetime pose as we boated along in choppy waves on the last morning of our shoot.<\/p>\n Each afternoon, we worked away from the boat to photograph wildlife at some of the many nice parks and habitats in the Rockport area.<\/p>\n Lots of ducks and wading birds winter in the Rockport area.<\/p>\n It had been awhile since I’d seen a male ruddy duck going into\u00a0breeding plumage.<\/p>\n I had a little too much lens power for this shot, but I wasn’t expecting a pelican to go after a cormorant.\u00a0 Actually, the cormorant surfaced near the pelican and was carrying a fish in its bill.\u00a0 The pelican was trying to take it\u00a0but there was no time\u00a0 to downsize lenses even though I had the 100-400 mm\u00a0around my neck.<\/p>\n Instead of making this image from the tripod, I laid down on the boardwalk to\u00a0improve the\u00a0perspective between me and the bird.\u00a0 The lower angle worked much better.<\/p>\n No whooping crane trip is complete until we’ve photographed around the harbors at sunset.\u00a0 We got the boats coming into harbor, unloading and docking for the night.<\/p>\n This was a tricky shot\u00a0in soft light\u00a0after sunset with\u00a0a one foot chop\u00a0on the water.\u00a0 To smooth the water surface, I selected a long exposure\u00a0to\u00a0blur the waves into a smooth, pleasing foreground surface.\u00a0 It wouldn’t have worked if the boats had been rocking on the waves.\u00a0 All but one\u00a0were securely moored.<\/p>\n Join me next winter for a week with the cranes.<\/p>\n Larry<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Three days in Rockport\/Fulton, Texas last\u00a0week was time well spent as\u00a0five\u00a0people\u00a0joined me\u00a0to photograph whooping cranes and several other species, mostly from Kevin Sims’s boat the Jumping Jack Flash.\u00a0\u00a0Sunny skies and warm temperatures\u00a0kept everybody comfortable, but the weather was a\u00a0little too bright\u00a0for ideal photo conditions.\u00a0 Nevertheless, the group had great success, so who am I to … Continue reading Another Fun Whooper Trip in the Books<\/span> <\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a>
