On Wednesday, I captured several images of roseate spoonbills resting and preening by the boardwalk at South Padre Island.\u00a0\u00a0During that last hour of\u00a0sunlight,\u00a0the birds were reluctant to move, so I was able to work (if you can call it work)\u00a0without moving.\u00a0 What a perfect way to end the day!<\/p>\n

Note how details of the birds tend to blend into the busy,\u00a0cattail background.\u00a0\u00a0While the location\u00a0offers a good view of\u00a0spoonbill habitat, I think a\u00a0clean, water background\u00a0would have\u00a0improved\u00a0these shots.\u00a0\u00a0 This is by no means a complaint;\u00a0\u00a0I was\u00a0blessed to be there.<\/p>\n

Several white ibis, black-necked stilts and heron mixed with the spoonbills occasionally, so I had to photograph them.\u00a0 The reflections of all the birds really helped these images.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0raised foot\u00a0gives this\u00a0shot\u00a0a\u00a0sense of action that would have been missing in a\u00a0typical\u00a0“standing bird” pose.<\/p>\n

By\u00a0the time\u00a0this “sweet light” came, the hundreds of talking, boardwalk vibrating tourists had gone to dinner, leaving three photographers and the birds to finish a beautiful day.<\/p>\n
