With the cooler days of mid-December comes the\u00a0rut in\u00a0south Texas.\u00a0\u00a0Smaller bucks have been engaged in mock battles since late November, but\u00a0the big boys seem to\u00a0magically appear from the dense, thorny cover a few days before Christmas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following images were made on December 13 when several\u00a0exceptional bucks were locked down on does, but\u00a0I saw no battles\u00a0that morning.\u00a0 The\u00a0brush country was shrouded in fog but the\u00a0sun started to sparkle of the wet grass and spider webs\u00a0shortly after sunrise.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m hoping\u00a0Santa will bring\u00a0us some heavy-antlered bucks and cold weather next week.\u00a0 A nice bit of jousting and flying dust would be good, too.\u00a0 I’ll let you know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
